Ceremony Hall
My piece, Encantada II, will be premiered at the Austin New Music Co-op's Invisible Landscapes show. Encantada II is the sequel to (of course) Encantada, in which the sound of contact microphones embedded in melting ice was met by weather in which ice was not encouraged to melt. Encantada II will feature the use of artificial heat to guarantee the melting of ice.

Waco Girls really enjoyed closing the Ulysses' Crewmen show at the Church of the Friendly Ghost on January 21. After fifty minutes of pistol-whipping, anarchism and general verbal abuse from the Insurgent Theatre kids, Waco Girls barricaded the audience in the darkened theater and interrogated them. I built my rig (mixer, mic, effects) to go 100% battery-powered so I could 'interact' with the audience a little more closely. Thanks to M. Bill Bridges for the robust sound reinforcement assistance.
The January 15 prototype of the Spoon River Anthology at the Church of the Friendly Ghost was fantastic. Typically a theater piece, Aaron Mace and I have reinvisioned it as a sound installation, in which the audience tours a cemetery with headphones and hears the stories of the dead as low-power radio broadcasts. We set up one station and enjoyed chatting with the audience and brainstorming a bigger realization of the piece.
The January 10 performance of my piece, Eustress, at the Church of the Friendly Ghost, was great and chaotic and still did not destroy this bass guitar. Deena Odelle Hyatt turned in a splendid rendition of the piece and managed to break the winch that pulled the strings, but the guitar survived. We WILL perform the piece again, with more robust technology, and hopefully, finally, break the bass, In the meantime, check out the video documentation of Eustress 1 here.
Waco Girls tore it up with the 9/11 Quartet and the Ah Holly Family at Club 1808 on Tuesday, December 1.
The November 7 premier of my new piece, Eustress, at the Austin New Music Co-op's Electrons and Phonons 09 festival, curated by William Meadows, was a success. Much thanks to the performer, Deena Odelle Hyatt, for her exceptional bravery. Check out the video here.
Waco Girls tore up Erik Satie's Vexations for twelve hours at the Church of the Friendly Ghost on Friday, October 16. We were shut down by the police and the yoga instruction. My amp blew up and Brent Fariss got a boo-boo on his finger. All in all, quite a success.
Recreating the domain won a 2009 Austin Chronicle Best of Austin Critic's Pick. Congrats to Vanessa, Patrick, Brent, Bill and Chris!
The Waco Girls were invited to sack Rome at the 24 Hour Roman Reconstruction Project at Arthouse on September 26. Check out the carnage! Thanks to T-Dub for the footage.
